Virginia August thee 7th 1770

Sir.

Mr John Hatley Norton was kind
enough last April, to advance me £80 Cur. money on
seven hh'ds very fine sweet scented Tobacco, which any
by this time I hope in your hands, and will come to
a good market; I am in great hopes that in a
very few years I shall be able to get thro' the many diffi
cultys I have for some years past laboured under;
I have been drove to great straits with almost everything I had
taken from me, but if I can possably raise a few
hundred pounds in the course of two or three years,
that will secure me a sufficient number of Negros
to make 12 or 15 hh'ds Tobacco a year; and you may
depend you shall find me grateful enough to ship
you that whenever it is in my power, in return for the
favor. I have receiv'd from your worthy son. I am
with great esteem Sir

Yr most Obedt. hble Servt.
