Mr. John Norton
Sir
I wrote You last by Capt. Robertson
to which I refer ; I forgot to Mention
[crossed out, illegible] that my little Daughter Patsy had sent some
Silk to be dyed, which was deliver'd to the Capt.
and had her Name upon it ; I must therefore
desire that You will be pleas'd to have it dyed
of the Colour of a small Piece of Cotton inclos'd in
this Letter for a Pattern, and also that You will
be Kind enough to procure a pair of turn'd Stays
acording to the Measure inclos'd, and sen 'em
with the Silk ; indeed if You cou'd sen 'em, together
with the Copper Kettle which I mention'd in my
last, by Capt. Esten I shou'd be particularly
obliged, as the latter is an Utensil that We are
much in want of. The Prospect of Crops has
been alter'd for the worse by a Fortnight of
continual Rains, which will a good deal lessen
the Quantity and alter the Quality of Tobacco
this Year, however We expect even now a pretty
large Crop. I expected 6 hhds from Ballard,
but begin to think 4 will be all, having finish'd
cuttin this Day Up the Country upon high Land,
I believe the Crops will be considerable, so that
I shall have the PLeasure I think of shiping
a good deal more to your Address next Year
than the present One, mean while with our best
Wishes for You & Family
I am Dr. Sir Your mo. Obt.
