Sir,
I am now to acknowledge the Rect. of yr. favr. of the 9th March last.
The Letter I formerly troubled you with relative to the Court
of Hustings, was written in Consequence of your Son's Request, &
those I wrote to other Gent: in London on the same Subject, in
Consequence of the Desire of a Number of Merchants here who with
me thought the Law unjust, several of whom wrote to their Correspndts.
themselves & have received answers which I have seen, advising them
the Law would be opposed & they had no doubt disallowed. Indeed
I do not know a single mercht. in the Colony who does not look upon
it in the same Light. The Operation of this Law already (for it has no
suspending Clause) has produced many of the Inconveniences
apprehended from it. I could have pointed out many other
Objections besides those mentioned in my former Letter, but
knowing you were well acquainted with this Court & this Country
was satisfied you would be able properly to judge of it, yourself,
and if from a careful perusal, nothing unjust appears in it, far
be it from me me to desire or expect your Opposition to the
Legislature of this Country, even tho' you should be applied to for
that purpose by every merchant in it. You may readily command
My Assistance in any thing I can be of Service to you in here, and
am, with Esteem
Sir, Yr. Mo. obt. Servt.
