I have just returned from Richmond and
received your letter and assure you am much surprised as well as concern
ed at the contents. you may inform Mr Norton that the report which has
reached him is altogether without foundation, nor can I imagine how it
cou'd have originated, had my father objected to the Union I shou'd most
certainly have informed him of long since. My father is averse to my marry
ing as soon as I wish, he thinks it wou'd have been to my advantage to
have waited a few years longer before I engaged myself; but he thinks
my choice is as good a one as I cou'd have made, and has not the
smallest objection on that head.
