Mr. Norton
Sir
When you applied to me by letter for the -
loan of money, I did not refer you to my debtors to collect it
of them, but chearfully and instantly, accomodated you
with one thousand pounds, which I did not even give you
the trouble of sending for, but forwarded it to you at Wms.burg,
and now I have a pressing occasion for it, and only request
you to assist me with a part of it, you refer me to Mr.
Claiborne, who I believe does not consider himself as your
debtor, as the debt has been paid into the treasury, is this
the way you repay friendship and kindness? nay, you
will not even furnish me with the sales of my tobacco,
or pay the balance you acknowledge to be due, I expected
different conduct from a person I obliged and who professed a
friendship for me, however, I shall not trouble you with any
more letters on the subject, and am, -
Sir
your hble servt.
