The letter mentions the passing of the senior Norton's business partner Thomas Flowerdewe and the younger Norton's forthcoming trip to England. Numerous other matters are discussed as well including those of John Hookham & Co., John Tomson, and Lamar, Hill & Bissett of Madeira.

Mr. Hookham having wrote you fully by this
Convyce. I have little to add except to acknowledge the
receipt of your favor of 20th June, I am in great hopes when
you go up the Country to the several Courts, the greatdifficultys
you expect'd to meet with in regard to loading the Ship will in
a great measure be remov'd; I wish I had known sooner of
the regularity of your Posts from New York, shou'd have
dispatch'd the List of Debts that way some time ago,
but we here look'd upon that way Conveyce. as the most tedious
& uncertain, & I fear 'twill now come full late (if it meets you)
to be of any great use while you stay, shall do the needfull
with Mr. Jameson's Affidavit, & please to inform Colo.
Thruston I have no hopes at present of Jno. Bootes's
Bill for £130, on Mr. Jordan being paid, & in due time
shall be return'd him ptested. I have rec'd from Mr. Hookham
out of the Trade between £1100. & £1200, on your Acco,t.
which is laid out in paying the duty's Freight & on all
the Tobo. Imported since the Death of Mr. Flowerdewe, wch:
properly belongs to you, & have purchased a Set of new books,
for that purpose. As all the Tobacco thats arriv'd is not
yet all landed twill take I suppose abt. £300 more for the
remainr. of duty & Charges, which will also be supply'd out
of the Trade, & you may depend the same care shall be
taken by me as if you were present or the concern solely
my own. Messrs. Lamar Hill & Bissett of Madeira have
sent a Bill of £25 on Accot. of Mr. John Tomson wch.

will be due in a few days & will then Credit his Accot. with
you for the same, as yet have rec'd no remittance on
your Cargoes of grain, when I do shall be carried to the
propers Accots. I heartily wish you & your Family a
pleasant Voyage & that you may have a happy meeting
with your Friends here who are all well. I am
