Virga. Brunswick County Dec. 10th. 1773
Gentl,
We have lately opened a Retail Store
in this County & shall be in want of abt £1000 St.g worth of Goods
from yr. Port for next Fall, and as we are Entire Strangers
to any Body there and desirous of Setling a Correspondence
M Theo Feild who is one of our Partners on mentioning ye
Same to him recommended yr. House to us which Enduced
us to make application to yr Son Mr. Jno. H. Norton in
Williamsburg who told us that he would not Engage to
Ship any Goods to Virga. (Sertain) with out ye Money was
Sent with ye. Orders but desird we would write you upon
ye Subject and was kind enough to promise he would also
mention us to you which we make no doubt but he
has it is uncertain wheter we shall have it in our
Power to make any remittance with ye Orders (if we can
we will) but as we do not owe to any Mercht. in Engld.
a Shilling do think we can Safely Promis a full Remittance
within 12 mo. as we should not willingly be disappointed
of ye. Goods are desirous of haveing your Sentiments on the
Matter, for which purpose you be kind enough to Write
us fully by ye first opportunity afte Rect. of this, which
will be in time to send our Orders away either to yr. House
or else where are
