Virginia, Williamsburg jan. 2d. 1774.

Mess. John Norton & Son.

Gentlemen,

Enclosed is the Honble. William Byrd's draft
on Robert Cary Esqr. & Co. for £500. Stg. which I am assured will
meet with due Honour, should that not be the Case, please
return it me under Protest, and any expense attending it
shall be thankfully repaid. In the course of the present Year
I expect I shall have occasion to send for some Things to the
amount of about £200. Stg. and Herewith I send you an
order from my brothers Samuel and Henry, who are just
begining Trade for themselves, the Things they tell me will
amount to about £300. Stg. should the enclosed bill not be
paid, you may if you please ship the Goods. I will take
care you are paid for them in due Time. by Capt Necks,
who goes Passenger in this Ship, I send you a few of our
latest Papers. I am, Sir,
