Frederick Jones, London, England, letter to John Hatley Norton, merchant of Yorktown, Virginia, dated September 7, 1774. Jones writes that his father has died leaving him with large concern of business and  hopes for a continuance of Norton’s favors. He also writes that the order came in time to ship on the Virginia but the cambrick and bandannoe being prohibited by the Association he deferred sending as the expenses on them was high.

London Septr 9th. 1774

Mr John Hatley Norton

Dear Sir,

Since the receipt of your
Favor of the 4th. July. I have had the misfortune to
loose one of the best of Fathers, which has left me in
a very large Concern of Business which I intend carry,g
on & hope for the Continuance of your Favors.

Your order came in time to be Shipped
on board the Virginia Captain Easton, the Invoice
for which Goods you will find inclos'd & have taken
particular care to look out such Goods as will please,
& merit your future Favors. You was so kind as
to Order One ps Cambrick & One ps Bandannoe, the
Entry for ye Prohibited Goods being made before your
Letter came to hand thought it best to defer them
till your next favour, as ye Expences on them two Articles
would have been Upwards of 15/, your Brother will
take care to get them Insur'd & to send you the Bill
of Ladg & remain with best respects Dear Sir
