Sir

The unlucky Embarrassment into which I involved
myself by becoming Mr Jones's Security, in the
purchase of a Sert from Capt. Esten has obligd
me, this thro' motives of self preservation to take the
Sert out of Mr Jones possession, & assume the
payment of the Money in my own name
- having too much reason to fear, that there
is not the most distant prospect of a payment
on his Side.

As I can not without the greatest
Inconviences to myself, immediately procure
the money - I am induced to [Ellicit?] the Indul
gence of a few months longer to pay it in - &
would on such Terms - most willingly allow
you Interest from the Sale of the Servt. untill
the Discharge of the Debt.

The want of so small a [illegible] for a few
months only, can not be very considerable to you
tho the above requested Indulgence would [crossed out, illegible]
exceedingly oblige -

Yr. obt & very Humle Sert
[Jame]s Innes
