Summons for Andrew Sprowle to appear before the Norfolk County Committee of Safety on September 16 to explain why he lets his storehouse be occupied by British soldiers as barracks. The document is a copy extracted from the minutes of the Committee and bears the signature of Edward Archer, secretary of the Committee.
Andrew Sprowle was a prominent merchant, British naval agent and landowner who founded the Gosport Navy Yard. He died on Gwynn's Island after fleeing Gosport with the forces under Governor Dunmore.

Order'd, that the Messenger summon Mr. Andrew Sprowle
to appear on Wednesday the 16<th. instant to give his reasons,
why he suffers his Store House to be occupy'd by the Soldiery
as Barracks.
