Virginia 15th. Septr 1775.
Gentn.
I have already wrote you by this Ship, since which having
purchased 7 hhds of Tobacco, & sent them down to York to go on board the
Prospect to your Address, unluckily before they could be got aboard, a
violent Storm arose, which drove the flat ashore, & entirely ruined
the Tobacco: I only saved one hhd which I was obliged to consign to
Mr. Lee rather than it should not be sent out, & I have now inclosed
you an Order for the Nett proceeds of it. Sometime ago Mr J H
Norton having proposed to me to take the Management of a small Store
he intended to fire at New Castle, & allow me a part of it, as soon as Trade
is open'd, at his desire I have made out a Scheme of Goods & deliver'd it
to him, which I suppose he will send out by this Ship.
My Brother Patrick will therefore join the Gentleman I formerly men
tioned having a Store with me here, & if agreeable to you, please to send
the Goods I wrote for to him, if you will take me for Security; if you
determine otherwise, please to let Capt. Jas Moodie of Greenock know you de:
:cline shipping them. The whole of the Tobacco shipp'd you this Year
I hae taken on myself, you will therefore give me creditt me with
the Nt. proceeds, & debitt me with the Ballance owing you. I have drawn
on you in favo. of Gildart & Busingny for £10.14. bal. of an Acco. owing them
which please to honour. I am Gentn. your most bhble Servt.
Jno. Hart
