Virginia 29th Janry 1776.

Gentlemen,

Inclosed you will receive Chas. Smith's Bill on
Mr Harford fo £25 Sterling, which please to receive of him. I
received you favour sometime ago dated in Septemr. & am glad to
hear of the safe Arrival of the Virginia, & hope the Tobo. will come
to a good Markett. Mr Richmond Allen says he would remitt you,
but his Brother having wrote on the Back of the Account Current
that it was wrong, it would be right you should send in a Copy
of your Account properly proven. I never received your favour by
the Acteon which you mention. Having lately met with a
great Bargain in some Rum I have made free to draw on you for £160,
but being assured by the Gentleman I sold it to, that it should not
be remitted for some time, I am in hopes of being able to procure as
many small Bills as will replace it in a few Months, therefore hope
it will not injure the Sale of my Tobacco, which undoubtedly must
now sell at a great Price. You may expect to hear from me soon & am
with Compliments to Mrs Norton & family

Gentlemen,
Your most obedt. & hble Servt.Jno. Hart

P.S.

This goes to Glasgow by my Brother Patrick Hart, who in
the present Relaxation of Business is going home to see his Relations.
Should he take a Trip to London, I shall consider whatever Civility
you shew to him ad done to myself. He has an Order on you from Colo. Wm
Clayton for £106 - which he intends to let lye in your hand
untill Trade is open'd, & if he should want any more Goods then, more than
the Bill comes to, for whatever you may please to trust him, I will en:
:gage to see a punctual Remittance made. The first Scheme of Goods
sent you last Summer I intended for myself, but as I have since been
applied to by Mr J H N. & have given him a full Order which he tells
me he has sent to you, I shall not want them. I am respectfully

Gentlemen,
Yours &c.
J Hart
