I duly received your Esteemd favour of
26^th Apl accepting Colo Claytons draught on Mr. J N -
You now have inclosed Mr. Patterson Boxleys on yourselves
for £5..4d, which hope youll honour. I had a letter from
my Brother John by the Christie Sloop - he has given over
all hopes' of a reconciliation - has given me an order on
you for what balance he may have in your hands - by
this time imagine all his tob^o is sold. be pleased to transmit
me the Acc^t. of Sales of what he shiped you in 1775 also
his Acc^t current - He advises me to get into business
as soon as I can, as he thinkgs theres not the least chance
of my ever getting back to Virginia - Ive a prospect
of going out immediatly to the W Indies, in partnership
with some Gent<sup.n in Glasgow - should it take place will
be obliged to draw on you for what Money we have
in yr Hands wh^ch. hope will not be inconveniant
I allways intended taking it out in Goods - and am
sorry Necessity obliges me to use it otherwise - I look
upon myself as under great obligations to M^r. Norton
his dind usage to my Brother when in London Credi
ing him in such critical times was favors not to be
forgotten - I was in Company the other day
w^th. a young Gentⁿ. that caem in the Christie he
saw M^r. J. H. N in W^msburg the beginning of August
who was then very well - the inhabitants of Virg^a
was in great want of many Articles. Salt anything
was to be had sold at 4 of the [illegible] w^ch. they had begun
to drink tea again w^ch. was selling very High. -
