Gentn.

Your kind favors of 15th & 22nd Instt.
I duly recd. am sorry to find no Goods are allowed
to go directly for New York. I came to this place
yesterday to see what the Messrs. Buchanans in
tended doing with the Cargoe they proposed shippg
to N York and find they are to send their Ship the
Patty with their Goods by Halifax a risk wch.
would be too great for me as my chief view was
gettin in early to Virginia. Therefor if you have
not already shiped the Goods I ordered, be so good
as to refer it. if they shd. be already shipd I will
be able to dispose of them without any great loss.
I had not bought up any Goods here as I was to have
notice in time to get them ready before the ship
saild and had only ordered a few from Bristol (be
:sides those from you) which shd. I be obliged to keep
on hand will not be any great loss as their is a
fair prospect of peace being soon and when
that happy event hapens I aprehend goods
will be very hard to be got. there will be such
great demands for them. The friendly usage
you have shewn my Brothers, as well as my
self, I cannot too much thank you for - suffice
it to say - that whenever you put it in my
power I will remember it with gratitude
Inclosed is an order on Mr Samuel Gist for
£4.19.9. a smal balance He owed my Brot.
John . As it may be some Months before I
may have use for the Money in Your hands

er's will give 5 or 4 pCent Intt for it, wch. would help
to pay my expences while here Idle - that I find
to come very hard. if yu cant get that Interest
for it my freind Mr. John McDouall will be
able to procure it here. be so good as inform me I
am with the greatest respect
