Virginia 24th feby 1777
Gentlemen,
I wrote you sometime in Augt. last & now take this Oppor:
tunity by the Way of St. Eusatia of sending you the following Orders vizt
Mr Wm Armistead on Mr Saml. Gist for 2 hhds Tobo.
Mr John Bradenham's on Mr. Saml. Waterman for do. & £9.3.8 Stg
Mr Robt. Bours on Do. for £8.9.8
Mr Wm Moss on Do. for abo. £16 Stg
which you will please to receive & place to my Credit. I am in hopes before long
to remitt a more considerable Sum, & intend to place in yr hands abo. £300 Stg
to be sent in Goods, as soon as as a Peace is concluded & Trade is open'd, which
I am afraid will not be soon as both Sides seem determined to continue
this unhappy War. Mr J H Norton told me of his having a Letter for you by a
Mr Maddison, & that you had informed him of Your having received a Letter
from My [illegible] so that I hope you received the Bills I sent by him, vizt.
Chas. Smith on E Harford & George Webb on yourselves for £25 & £50. I made
out a Scheme of Goods last Spring (wc. Mr J H Norton says he sent to you by the
Way of the W. Indies) to be sent out on our joint Acct.: As soon as there is any
prospect of Peace, & we can come on terms, I shall make out another more fully
& send to you: At present I do some Business for him on Wages. With best
