Portsmouth 27. December
1779

Dear Sir,

I wrote you on the 25t. Inst. to Inform
you of our Arrival at this place on the 23d
from Plymo. under Convoy and to let you
konw that I had Just recd. Instructions from
the Cabbot Sloop of War for the Downs
and that we sail the first Fair Wind
but Unfortunately for us the Wind came
to the Eastward and now Seems Settled in
that Quarter pray God it may not continue
long, I wrote you from Penzance that Mr.
Nortons letters to you & the rest of his Frnds
were by his desire to be kept on Board &
not put in the Post but as he shou'd not
Fore see such a detention as we have
Unluckily Met with since our first
Arrival in England, I shou'd be glad of
a line from you directd to be left at
Mr. Wrens in St. Thos. Street. Whether
you woud Advize me to put them
in the Post if the Wind continues or not I wish
you & your Famaly the Complemts. of
the Season & Remain Dr Sir your
