Mr. George Flowerdue Norton

Dear Sir

On my return to the West Indies I found
your much respected favor, giving an Accot. of
your happy meeting with your Dearest connextions -

A few days since I rec'd a letter from Mr. James
Withers of London, covering MrJohn Smiths draft
on Hugh Johnston of London for £500 Stg with
Protest for non payment - it gave me much
concern for the disappointment I know it must
have occasion'd - from the extraordinary change
which the unexpected Peace, has produced in every
Mans affairs in this place - it was not in our
friend Smiths power immediately, to replace or
discharge the above Bill - & knowing a large part
of his property to be in the hands of Mr. Wm.

Pennock of your State, I have thou't it most eligible
for your Interest, to renew the Bill with Interest &
Damages, on Pennock in your favour at 40 days - first
of which you have inclosed - & as the Blessings of Peace
is once more restord to us - & the intercourse between the
States and great Britian will become frequent, I conceive
the mode of settlement I have adopted will be by
far the most expeditious - for your reimbursement.

As the Peace will give us an oppty of arrang
=ing our old Standing Business, will thank you at
your leisure for a State of our long depending Accot.
from S: Eustatia - & if I may expect any thing
therefrom - Our Business at Curacoa calls for
my Presence there, & I depart for that place
tomorrow - Mr. Withers sent me a box containing
News papers & Magazines; with some Books for Mr.
Webb, which have been forwarded to him - the Papers

some good oppty - please direct for me
at St. Croix in my Absence to Nichos. Cruger Esqr. -
