round, the Weather having been for some days foggy, very little
wind & that contrary. Capt. Esten Junr arrived off Dover Yesterday
I find p a Manifest he sent up to Mr Bowden we have 192 hh'ds
in her. I dont see any from Capt. Warner Lewis. Mr Wm. Armistead
Gloster & some others. I expected, the Insurce. in Necks for Colo.
Harwood is made. Capt. Esten takes his Letters away tomorrow
therefore cant now be particular. I have sent Goods for sevl. persons
p List & have directed a Hamper of Porter, a doz of Tongues in
a firkin, ½ a Chest of Lemons to be put onboard Capt. Esten as
also some biscuit it it can be got onboard Capt. Esten in time,
no herrings dry enough to ship yet or w:d have sent some. I shall
endeavor to secure the Brilliant for another Voyage if I can &
probably may send a smaller another smaller Vessell if I can get Mr. Arnold
to give me 50 in each but of this more hereafter. I hope now you
will have leisure you will send me a particular list of my Store
debts, as also an Accot. Currt. between Mr. E. Cary & me when the
settlement was made. I have rec'd a Sketch of a Cash Accot.
but I should think there must have been more transactions of that
sort by you than were contain'd in that piece of paper however
you must know best. The ballce. of this Accot. here will go in part
pay for what he will be in Arrears to me & must charge you for

all the Goods ship'd for the Store as also my remains taken for
the use of the Store. I think Mr. Cary must have had more than
Irishmen's Assurce. to make use of my money, leave my
debts unpaid especially Mrs. Reynolds's £300 & Mrs. Nelson's
for which I have been paying Interest for a considerable time.
I shall not enlarge at present having my hands full of business.
Billy Reynolds begins his preparation for Inoculation with
Sutton this Night. We are all sett.g off for Putney this day, we
join in best wishes for yourself & all friends in Virginia, Time
will not permit one to add but that I am
Dear Hatley
Your's sincerely
John Norton
P.S. Pray acquaint Mr Geo. Thomas
if he has not left Virginia which suppose
he may that I have purchas'd 4 Lotty
Tickets No. 7193, 7194, 7195, 10457
at £14..6 each, no Certificate has
been sent for his Hemp in Outram the Capt. lost or mislaid it
another must be sent or no bounty will be allow'd. Capt. Hubbard
is arrived. I beg Mrs. Reynoldss's £300 & all Curry debts may be paid
out of the first money rec'd. I want to know what protested bills are
paid settled & what unsettled & list of Debts, as the Lot Garden
being an Acre may be of advantage to my dwelling house. I think
the selling of it might as well be declined at present as it would not
fetch much & 'tis rented out. I should like well enough to have the
House Mrs. Goosley lives in Sold provided it would not be prejudicial
to her, there being but little Ground belonging to it. Your Letter p
Capt. Esten is just come to hand.
