Richmond 6^th Dec^r: 1786.

Sir,

M^r. John Powell, of Lunenburg County
as Executor of his father has directed assuit against
you & brother as surviving partner of Mess^rs. Norton & Sons
for a balla: due them, he has put into my hands the
Letters from the house acknowledging receipt of the
money he claims; as there can be no doubt on this
Subject, I have recommended an amiable settle
=ment, which if you approve of, the suit may
be withdrawn on your paym^t: of the balla: due.
