May 15th. 1790 -
Sir
On the year which caus'd
Hostilities to commence between
this Country & Great Britain,
my Father shipped to Norton &
Son of London 4 hhds. Tobacco
from the Ware house of Warwick
County and James River; when
when the Tobo: was shipped, my
Father intended that the remittance shou'd be
made in such Articles of G. Britain
as he might direct; War being
declared betwenn the Countries,
[Page 2]
prevented him from communicating
his wish to Norton & Son - They
disposed of the Tobo: at a very high
Price, (this information I obtaind
from their Clerk in London) &
have never made any return
of same to me or any of the
Family - I have therefore to
request of you, who I'm told
stand as the supporter, or Aider
of that concern, to make
such payment as the Account
of Sales of the Tobo: in London
[Page 3]
requires; you will please
direct your answer to this to
Capt Edward Watson of Norfolk
who will receive the amount of
same by my request - I call
on you now in the Character
of an Executor to my Fathers
Estate
Your obed: Servt
