He requests Norton pay the debt to his business partner, Mr. Reed, who needs the money.

When I left Philadelphia I expected
to have pass'd thru Winchester and to have call'd on
you for the ballance due Reed & Forde I am
now on my way to the Missisipi and shall be
gone some Months Mr Reed will be in want of
Money you will particularly oblige me if you
forward it as early as you [torn, illegible]ably can
