Virginia Augt 2d. 1769
Mr. John Norton Virginia
Sir/
I have sent you 5 hhds wch hope you will do
the best yt lays in yr. power in selling them
years of late has been so bad yt their; no such
thing as to make a Crop. I am sorry yr Compl
aint of my Tobo: I thought what ground. I plan=
the Tobacco when it was Inspectd their was
severel of ye Neighbous alowd it to be as good
Tobo. as they had seen it was not so large as
I have made but thicker & weighteir Tobo I never
had in my life so if such Tobacco will not
answer I must leave it of & fall in some
other way to get a living. I have a better pros
=pect now then I have had for some years
to make a crop as I understand there is but
a small prospect of making Tobacco in many
parts of the Country I have sent to you for
few Goods which please to send me as by
the Inclosd Invoice what Tobo. I shall make
I shall Reserve for ye order & with Respect
