Benjamin Day, Fredricksburg, Virginia, letter to John Hatley Norton, Winchester, Virginia, dated November 30, 1793. Day w<span>rote to Charles Grymes at Richmond as requested who said that Dr. Smith will not purchase Norton’s property in York. He thinks selling a part would cost Norton money. William Reynolds present situation will not allow him to discharge the balance of his bond so taking his houses, etc. was better than getting nothing. Asks remittances for accounts of Mr. Relph, etc. and William Anderson &amp; Co.</span>

John Hatley Norton Esq^r.

D^r: Sir

I duly received your Favour of 28^th. Ult^o. and
as you requested, i write to M^r. Grymes at Richmond. He
informs me Doctor Smith has declined purchasing
your Property in York. to take £300 for the part
of it which I mentioned to you in my last, would be sub
-jecting you to a Loss: but from M^r. Reynolds pre-
sent situaltion, however well he may intend, I dont
see how he is to discharge the Ballance of his bond; there
-fore under this Idea, taking His Houses &c^a. as you
have done, was better than getting nothing - or it would
have been an unadvisable purchase ~ I shall wait
your further Directions on this Subject -

When will it be in your Power to make ^me fur-
-ther Assignments on account of M^r. Relph &c^a.
for they are impatient to be paid -

I shall be obliged to you to remit me the
small Ballance due to Mess^rs. W^m. Anderson & comp^a.
