Fredericksburg 24th. Jan:y 1794

John Hatley Norton Esqr.

Dr. Sir

I am just now favoured with yours of 16th. Instt.
its Contents so far as relate to Mr. Reynolds and the pro
-perty taken of him shall be immediately attended to; and
if I can obtain the £300 sometime ago offered to me I
will take it -

The principal motive of my immediately writing
you is to request a more positive Determination on the
Alternative, which by the Direction of Messrs. Wm. Anderson
& Compa., I had the pleasure of submitting to you in my
Letter of 31st. December. it informed you they had shipped
ten Hogsheads of your Tobacco to Havre de Grace, but that
if you were dissatisfied with it, or unwilling to run
the Risk of that Market, Remittance &c:a they would
take it on themselves and allow you three pence p lb being deduct.
-ing the customary Allowances for Damage Theft. Loss of Weight
&ca. - Our Answer now before me acceeds conditionally to
the shipment. Their Object is that your Determination shou'd
be positive as to the Alternative offered you. Requesting
you
