John Lewelling, Virginia, letter to John Norton, merchant of London, England, dated September 18, 1769. Lewelling writes that he has purchased pewter in Virginia so does need any sent from England. He also writes that a hurricane has done significant damage to the crops of corn and tobacco and desires Norton wait to sell his crop when it will fetch a higher price.

York Virga Sepr. 18. 1769

Mr John Norton

Sir

I mentioned in my Invoice to you to send
me some Pewter, but I have since supplied my self
here & must beg you not to send it. We have had a
bad Hurricane that has destroyed almost all our Crops
of Corn & Tobacco. Therefore I must desire You not to be
in a Hurry in selling my Tobacco for the Crops of Tobo
will be very short and a good price I Imagine may
be got for it. I remain sir yr mo. obedt Humble
