Fredericksburg 23d September 1769

John Norton Esquire.

Dear Sir,

I take the Liberty to acquaint you with
my safe Arrival in Virginia about the Middle of
last Month. One of the first Articles of News
was the Death of my good Father - an unexpected
Stroke! The Associations not to import
certain Articles of British Goods from the first
of this Month have become very general.
But we expect the Measures of next Session will
render them unnecessary. The crops of Tabaccoe
in ye Lower parts are greatly injured by a late
Hurricane. I am just now about fixing in
this Town & shall open in a few Days. My
most respectfull compliments to Mrs. Norton & Family.
I have said thus much without Apology, being always
glad of an opportunity of acknowledging myself your
much obliged & mo: obt Sert
Maury
