William Duval, Virginia, letter to John Norton, merchant of London, England, dated October 23, 1769. Duval writes that he has sent one hogshead of tobacco which he did not sweat. He hopes to send more though he fears it will be short of what he expected due to the hurricane.

Virginia October 23^d 1769

S^r I have sent you one hhd of new Tobacco to see
How it will Turn out without sweating till it
getts the sweat in the ship as Capⁿ Lily was
Detain by the Gust that we had the 7^th of last
Month I have had an oportunity to gett one hhd [illegible] and have
sent by him which I wish safe in your hands
I shall gett all I can ready a gainst your ship comes
I fear will be short of what I Expected
