Virginia Northampton Augst. 25th. 1771

Sir,

Yours of the 9th. of March, together with the Goods
Ship'd in the Lyon Capt. Goosley came safe to hand; as also
yours of the 29th. May P the Virginia Capt. Robertston
inclosing an Acct. of Sales of the 4 hhds of Tobo. shiped last
Year in the Golden Fleece Nett proceed £33..9..7 which -
being James River Tobacco was in hopes would have sold
higher.

You will receive by the return of Robertson 4 hhds of -
Hanover Tobo. ; & by the Pitt Capt: Chisman 20 hhds made
on my own Estate, which having been very particular about,
hope will answer the market better than that ship'd you last -
Year. This Tobo. I intended for Goosley, but could not get it
ready before he was full. Your son has wrote for Insurance.

In one of my former Invoices, I set down 12 knives for
topping Fodder, (as we generally form it in Virginia) and -
instead of proper knives for that purpose, they have sent me
Hay knives, which are of no kind of Use in this Country;
I have therefore sent them back, requesting the favour of you
to

to get your Shop keeper to change them for as many Butcher
Knives.

Inclosed you have my Invoice of Goods, which I shou'd be
glad to receive by the first of your Ships that Sail next Spring.
You will also receive an Invoice of one of my Neighbours Mr.
William Kendall which he desired I wou'd inclose to you you
will therefore be pleased to send his Goods with mine, with
a separate Acct. and charge me with the whole.
