London the 10t May 1767

 

Dear Hatley

 

I wrote you the 17 past & intended it p Capt Wilkin-
-son he told me on Change he was goe:g to Gravesend himself tha [damaged]
Afternoon that Mr. Athawes's Youngest Sond w:d follow him [damaged]
ye Even:g aftger with all his Letters, & if mine were sent any [damaged]
in ye. forenooon they wd. be soon enough but instead thereof [damaged]
I went with them to Mr. Athawes's House in ye Morn:g [damaged]
he went down the Night Tide, so they were left, & those sent [damaged]
post to Ramsgate / it being a bye post / did not get there 'till [damaged]
-day Noon, & they were left likewise as I expected, & have been since
return'd to me, you have them p this opporty in which Mr.
Ballard is passenger with Capt. Littell bound to Jas. river,
In look:g over Matters since ye Ship sailed I find by Mr. Barwick's
neglect:g to make out 2 Bills of pcells 1 for Colo. Ed:d Digges ye other
Mr. Jno. perrin for each a ps. o fSilk which your Mother bot. for
her own wear. I but substituted them instead of those they order'd,
neither of them have been charged in their Invoices. I have wrote
them of it & must charge them with it, also Mr. Barwick has
added his Bill of pcells for Mr. prentis's Goods £10 .. sho[damaged]
at least Mr prentis is cha:d £10 too little for the same [damaged]
his. Invoice, have since charg'd him with ye Error & p th[damaged]
Opporty advis'd him of it. We are all much as you left us you[damaged]
has been to Whitfields tabernacle & satisfied her Curiosity, [damaged]
seemed much disappointed, his Oratory fell greatly short of her [damaged]
Expectations. I have done little in the Tobo. way since I worte, ha[damaged]
sold only 10 hh'ds of Sticky Stript Leaf to Mr. Grote a 3d ye 36 hh'ds [damaged]
solod Lyde of Stript Leaf prov'd in genl very rotten on delivery, old Mr
Hodgkin took 900lb allowce. and & wou'd hardly agree to take them at
that, many hhds turn'd out rotten quite thro, they belonged to Mr.

Thomson I have got off the Leaf of that Stamp to Andrews &
Co & Sayer, on pretty good good Terms, except ye hh'd DVN wch.
[damaged] s so bad I let him have it a 2d/8 withot Allowce. I have only
[damaged] hh'ds Leaf & 18 hh'ds Stript of Anderson's Cargo & 80 of Lilly's
[damaged] by odd Ships unsold, many of them by Lilly being new I fear
[damaged] stick on hand, but the old Tobo. I am not much afraid of
[damaged] most of the Merchts. have cleared their Warehouses. Lilly
[damaged] s put his Ship up at the Coffee house to sail this Mo; p him
probably you'll hear from me again at prest remain with all
our good Wishes to your & Fr'ds in Virga.
