Francis Leigh letter to John Norton, merchant of London, England concerning his tobacco shipments and his debt. Leigh wrote that his wife sent a gown to be dyed and to request a pair of shoes and a brass kettle. With this letter, Leigh sent a brief note requesting additional items for his wife.

Sir/

Your Favour of the 29th. May p the Virginia
Capt. Robinson, advising me of the safe Arrival
of the golden Fleace by whom you Rec'd 5 hhds of
my Tobacco the Nett proceeds of which is £58..15..3 -
I have before me you Omited Sending me any Acct.
Currant. which wou'd have been agreable, I've sent
You p the Virginia 5 hhds Tobacco which I Hope will
will come safe to Hand & to good Market, as am
Sensible, the Tobacco is of good Quality & well hand
=led, its not in my Power to Request a Remittance
in goods as am Still in Arrears, for which I must
Draw on you, the Just Sum I Can't Ascertain, at
Present tho' believe about £60. Sterling, for which if shou'd
Draw on youi I hope you'l Answer, after this I Hope
to be able to have my Remittance in goods. as am
Heartily Tir'd of the Impositions of the Merchants
in this Collonie, tho Have Delt with them as sparingly
as Possibly, my wife sends you a Gown to have
Dy'd of a Lemon Coular and Desirs you'l send
her 4 ps. of Black Callamanco Shoes, Size Small 3
my Weak State Occations me to Conclude much
Soonere than wou'd, tho' Cant Omit my Sincear
Wishes for the prosperity of Mr. Norton & Family
and am
