Gloucester County Virginia 8th, Feby. 1772

Sir.

The long standing account to which I stand
indebted to you on being never paid yet, is
not owing to any dishonest, or fraudulent design,
but to my grief by being severals security
for which I was Oblige to become paymaster
& loose my money, this & other misfortunes
hath greatly Reduced my Circumstances &c
however Sir, if your goodness will not
disterss me for some short time more, I
have a prospect of paying you, that is I
have a piece of Land part of the low grounds
of Gloster which is in dispute between me
& Lewis Burwell Esqr. which from the best
Advice they inform me I shall get it, it
being sometime in court, if you dispute
my Word in the above you may know by any
Gens. in Gloster to whom you are acquainted
your induglence in the above will greatly
Oblige your most Obet. humble Servt
