Copy of a letter John Hatley Norton sent to his father in London. Norton writes concerning the several hundred hogsheads of tobacco he has sent; a bill for Madeira wine by Capt. Robertson; 18 hogsheads of ginseng shipped by Jerdone, Walker and himself; orders for goods for Secretary Nelson, John Smith and Mrs. Jacquelin Ambler. Norton also mentions a present of hams and tea from his Aunt Burwell and some trifles to be sent with Captain Anderson. Norton notes that the letter is being sent by his cousin, John Baylor, who is departing for London.

Dear Sir

My last was p Capt. Drew, this is intended you p Favor of Mr. Baylor
who goes Passenger in Anderson, since have rec'd your several Favrs. of
10th. April & 17 Do. 10th. & 19th May & one of 18th July p Capt. Hamilton, was extreme
ly glad to hear p latter that you had heard of Anderson's Arrival, it will be
impossible for me to answer your Letters fully p this Convyce. but
you may expcect to hear from me p Hubbard or Peterson who
Sail in a few Days. The Rachael & Mary is compleatly loaded. she has
about 661 Hhds of Tobo. on board 590 of which are Consigned to
you, Donaldson who sails at this Time has 10 Hhds & Hubbard
about 47 Hhds as I have wrote for Insurces. p Anderson in the difft.
Ships for several people
as I shall write you so soon I will now
only enclose Certificates for Anderson's Loading 7 in all one belongs
to Cary's House which you will charge them with when I send
an acct. of the whole Expence. the others you will Charge the difft. Correspts.
with as you think proper also for Bills of Loading for 1 Hhd of choice
Madeira Wine shipd by Capt. Robertson being part of the partnership
Produce, ship'd in Capt. Innis - also Bills of Loading of Tobo in
Donaldson, & Hubbard Weights of 18 Hhd Gensing shipd by Jerdone Walker
& self as p Particulars at Foot I have endorsed a Bill of Mr. Jno Armisteads
of Caroline Co. payable to Mr. Prentis for £92.9.9 which is for the
Purchase of 8 Hhds of N Dandridge's Crop also a Bill drawn by me
in behalf of Colo. John Snelson Humpy. Hill F Jerdone for £100 & self being for the purchase
in part of 32 Hhds of fine Hanover Tobo. (in Capt. Hubbard,) payable to N. Savage
A bill of Exche. for £20 Sterling being money for a Horse on order to Thos.
Butler, being also an order for a Horse, Robt. Burwell has drawn on you
£40 st. pyable to W Stevenson, he has shiped 2 Hhds Tobo. & will ship
some Hemp soon. Things order'd by Mr. Nelson Secretary 6 Vo. of the
whole Duty of Man. J Smith wants 6 lb. of Wiston's Snuff for none else

A few trifling Articles for Mrs Jacqueline Ambler as p
Memorandum you have enclosed Copy of the old ladys
will. I have taken of Mr. Wm. Cary Curnt. money for £20 Sterg.
which youll be kind enough to give his Accot Credit for & debit me for the
same, I am equally concerned with H. Hill Jerdone Snelson in the
32 Hhds, & with Docotr Walker & F. Jerdon in the Gensing
it was purely to oblige them otherwise I would not have been Concernd.
Anderson has a few pounds of Tea for you. A present of Hams
from my Aunt Burwell & some trifles besides which Capt.
Anderson will deliver you safe. As I'm setting off wth Mr. Baylor
for the Mouth of the River to take leave ther you'l excuse me
if I prolong writing till either Hubbard or Peterson sail which will
be in a few Days So sincerely wishing you a good Sight of Mr.
Baylor & Capt. Anderson & a good Sale to the Cargo
