York Virga Decr. 8 1769

Dr. Sir

I have recd. your two favours of the
27th. May & 26th. Augt. the former covering sale of my
four hogs Tobo. p Brilliant. I have now wrote to
Billy Reynolds and have told him that I believe
his income when all is settled will be some where about
£125. Currt. I have taken a good deal of pains to
reduce His Estates into a short state but it has not
been in my power money is so scarce and Law
so tedious that I have been able to get in but a
small part of the debts due to the Estates I want
much to settle Seabrooks & remitt the two thirds to
the Legatees with you and I will have it done in
a few months wch. be so kind as let the Lady know
I think you said you knew of no charges to be made
to that Estate I find that I forgot to mention
to you last Winter to apply forty pounds Sterl. to
W. Reynolds's Credit I left it for that purpose &
I shall be glad you will now charge me with
Sixty pounds Sterl. more on his Accot. agreable to
what I have now wrote him And between this
& next summer I will remitt about £100 Str more
what may be over his expences I daresay he will
manage properly and I think the method of employing
it which you mention is a very good one. I expect
the sale of my last Tobo. will justifie my desire of
the sixty pounds to be placed to his Cred. as well as
the forty pounds before. I have read your remarks

on the address to many At the first when the comment
appeared in our paper some of your Friends were
very much offended at finding your name among the
signers but when the affair was coolly reasoned upon
I believe there was not any of them who thought your
intention was to say or do any thing to the prejudice of
America Some of the expressions in the address were
rather too general & gave a handle to the Gmen you
hint at to wrest them to their own purposes Those
Gmen I believe are not in much esteem here and you
the signers I believe stand excused by every body I am
afraid your Patriots as well as that set of Men you
hint at who pretend to be our Patriots will in the end
be found to aim at their own interest only.

Mr. Thomas Archer has chartd. his Brig to carry a load
to Lisbon or Oporto and tells me he has wrote to you
to make an Insurcn. on her and that he shall order the
Freight to be remitted to you He intends to send you
an Invoice for some Goods to the amount of two or
three hundred pounds and should it so happen
that the Vessel is lost You will run no risk in sendg.
the Goods even if you had not the Insura. in your
hands as Mr Archer is in good circumstances.

Robert Seymour has desired me to put you in mind
of some matter of his but what that is I do not
know. I am with Compliments. to your Lady and
Family. Dr. Sir
Your mo. Obed Servt.
David Jameson
