Turmlow Aug: 22nd. 1750.
Before the receipt of yours by last Post, I began to think you
Negligent, in not writeing for above a Week accord:g to my direction; but as
a Ship was arriv'd, & you waited for Letters, I think you did very well.
When the Tobs. are all up, the Landws. will bring his Accot. you are to
pay him 3 [illegible] p hhd yt: is 3/_ & pay the full duties on the Post Entry as you
did the former. If Abra: Lestour finds they are such as you describe
tell him I think they may deserve 3 or at least 2 7/8 [illegible] p [illegible] if he takes m/y:
you must Export 'em off the Bond in Geo: Hill which believe is dated 7th
Novr. last, but you'll see by the Cus: Ho: Entry Book. Has Preacher rece'd
his Tobo. if not, go to Hodgkins, & tell him my agreemt: was to weigh 'em off directly
You mention not whither any money is paid in on my Accot: at Mr. Surmans
W Nelson's Ballce. need not be paid till my return, nor the Freit of these
Tob:o unless Mr. Buchanan & Co desire it, & then you know wt. the Petty
Chas. Impost & are, if any dam: they must allow, or produce the Capt
Protest, Mr. Hookham will provide the Money. You did right to send
the Venison to Putney, If Mrs. Otway draws for £8, desire Mr. Hookham
to direct her Bill to Mr Surmans for paymt. In regard to the Note
left by Mr Torver &ca when Bills are left you may ask who they belong
to, but if the Person they are pay:le to has Endors'd them, they must be paid

(if the drawer has Effects) be they in whose hands they will. Send a Note to Mr Wood
the Carpenter, & tell him I desire he'd putt more hands on, to Compleat the Jobb as I shall
be in Town in abo:t 3 Weeks, & expect all to be finishd before that time. Tell Mary when
the Dine:g Room is finishd, to Open the Windows every day, to take out the smell of Paint.
When the Bills Mr Norton mentions he shou'd remitt come to hand, you are to Enter in the
Bill Book, & then Leave all that are upon People in London at the Notarys directly -
Go on Fry:y even:g or Satur:y morning & ask for Mr Mich:l Turner at his Shop in Fleetstreet
or his House in Gough Square just by, & give Mr Wmson's & my Service to him, & Mrs Turner
& desire to know how they do, inquire of him how if our Putney Friends are well, & begg
he'd Inform them that wee are so. If Mr Dineley is in Town make our Comply:ts to [ms. damaged]
& inquire after [ms. damaged] & Familys Health. I suppose you Continue at Mr Hookhams [ms. damaged]
my Service to him & Family, am glad to hear his Wife is something better, you had best leave [ms. damaged]
on the Desk in Count:g Ho: & that Mary desire People that call to write down their Business
& she wait on 'em the while at Street Door for fear of Rogues. Ask at the Virga Coffee
House when the Ship [ms. damaged]

Inquire of Mr. Sidney whither any, or what India Ships are arriv'd & lett me know when
you write. Also send word what Ships are come in from Virg:a. or Maryld.
If any Orders for Insur:ce go to Mr Deacons Clerk & gett them done, give:g him direct:n only for
one Persons order at a time, if the Letters mention it you may inform him when the
Ship was expected to depart.
