Williamsburg 5th May 1783

Sir

I have several of yr favours respecting
a settlement of our Accts. this is the third Letter
I have wrote you on this head - I have paid you
since the Dissolution of our House between three
and four hundred hhds of Tobacco, and some
money. You know there were considerable Debts
due from the Co. which have been discharged by
me, I have transmitted to Mr Morris Feby 1780
the Accts. of Willing Morris & Co. & his Accounts
for final settlement, which he has failed to
look into. and altho M Holmes attended more
than one Month in Pha. neither Mr Morris, nor
his Attorney could find time to proceed to a
settlement. the adjustment of these Accts are Essenti
=al to a Completion of Yours with me, M Holmes
& myself will be so much engaged in dispatching
a ship & a Brig I am fitting out that I fear

we cannot state our Co. Accts sooner then sometime
in July. I will have it done as soon as Possible,
and advise you thereof - I experience the same
disappointments that you do. my Collections does
not Amtto Interest, the Merchts. of this state
are in a truly distressed condition - I have hopes
Messrs. Edwd & John Smith will pay you on my
Account £100. or £150. they owe me more money,
and will I hope furnish you with many [illegible]
as convenient to you as money - I cannot
form the most distant Idea of the State of
our Accts. I must first make settlement with
Mr Morris, nor have I yet obtained any Accts.
of the goods from Europe Via St Statia, these
Accts. I shall again press for, & I hope may soon
be obtained - I will at all times render you
what satisfaction respecting our Accts. that is in
my Power - I am Respectfully. Y m obdt
