Goochland C. House 18th. Jan.y 1790.
Sir:
Yours I recd. this day as well as the one dated at
Mr. Ronalds and notwithstand I think the British
Debts are not recoverable either under the Laws or
the Treaty, yet I am disposed to make paymt.
of any such property as I can possibly spare in
discharge of the Debt I owe Messrs. Nortons, & I shall
be glad to see you at my House as you
go to Richd. in order that we may settle this
matter amicably - I am sorry that you shd. have
conceived that when you spoke to me in -
Richd. on this Subject I treaded you with con
tempt and can assure you, I meant no such
thing I believe we construe the meaning of the
Treaty respecting B. Debts differently and so I.
expect we do the Effect of the Judgmt. of York
Court - but believe me Sir I do not blame
you as yr friend for trying to recover
your Debts and that I am disposed to do
every thing in my power to make paymt., I have
P. Securities - Keny. Lands - Horse, Lands in
Goochd. any of which you shall have if
we can agree - and am wth. great respect
