Copy of a letter from George Boswell to John Norton, merchant in London in which Boswell complains that the tobacco he left in the care of Edward Cary, a store keeper for Norton in Virginia, was allowed to sit in the warehouse for 18 months. Boswell complains further that he was not made aware that goods he ordered had been received in Virginia until a year after their arrival.

Fauquier County June 25 1768

Sir

I have made free to wright the third letter to you to no
if it yould be agreeable to ship you some more Tobaco, tho I
don't Believe you want my custom for their layd in wear wear
house a Ton of my Gloucester Tobo. almost Eighteen months
when I Expected you had it Mr. Cary had Orders to send for it but
Never did as I lived out of the county. Trusted all to him
The Tobo. I no make will be Brought to the Fauls of Rapahanock
River it is fine mountain Tobo. I Believe I could let you have
three or fore Ton the next Crop if you think it worth your
While to send for that small quantity. Likewise if you think you
could always send my Good up to the fauls that I mite Git
them. The Goods I sent for I never Received. they was in the Country
almost 12 months before new of it so that I was Oblige to
Purchase good in the country at [ms. damaged] very dear Reat Mr. Cary has Sold
the goods the goods you sent in for me, the Tobo. that I shipt
you I have draw'd a Bill of Exchange and inclouding a Ballance
of that was due to my father Estate which was seventeen Shilling
& tow penc the hole Bill a Monts to £26 4 10 which I hope
you will Answear the debt that was due by my father to you
I have discharged to Mr. Cary. I shall be Glad to Recd. a letter
from you As soon As possible. Your comployence
will Greatly Oblige sir
