Williamsburg 17th. February 1769

Dear Sir.

I wrote you a few lines Yesterday & advi:
sed of my Draught to Mr. John Greenhow for £400 Stg.
which I desired the Favour of you to honour & now
regret the same Request. The considerable Purchase
I made of Tobo. last year added to the Difficulties I meet
with in collecting Money due to the Treasury, has obliged
me to trouble you with several Bills more than
I intended; however I'll take Care that you shall
not be long in Advance for me, either by remitting
you Bills or shiping Tobo.; &, if I put you to any
Inconvenience, I will cheerfully recompence
you by allowing such Interest as you think
reasonable, as I would not by any Means have
you suffer the smallest Loss on my Acct. I part:
ly promised yr. Son a Bill for £100 when he
came down the Country, not then foreseeing
a late pressing Demand; If he desires it, I must be
as good as my Word, & hope it will be the last
I shall have Occasion to trouble you with soon
on my own Acct. I send you a small Bill on Mr.
Waring for £34 Stg., which you'll be pleased
to credit me with when paid; from a very
extraordinary Letter that Gent. wrote me lately
I am not sure whether he will not scruple accep:
ting it; if he does, I am sure he will do me
great Injustice, as I have advanced the Money
from Time to Time out of my Pocket; if he makes
the smallest Hesitation, pray desire him to shew
you my Letter & Acct. sent by this Opportunity,
which will convince you that any Objection
of his is groundless & unjust; I decline repeating
what I've said to him, as I hope it is unnecessary; but
it would give me great Uneasiness to have a Bill of
mine protested, even when it is negociated thro the
Hands of a Friend. Advise, my Dr. Sir, & believe me
unalterably

Yr. affte. Sert.
Ro. C. Nicholas

Mr. Edwd. Ambler by his Will directed a Ring of five Guineas
Price to be purchased for his Kinsman Mr. William Gooseley;
upon my communicating this to him some Time ago, he
inform me that he had just wrote to you for a Watch
which he intended as Memorial of his Friend,
& desired that I would have the Price of the Ring
apply'd towards the Watch; which you'll be pleased
to do. Mr. Ambler particularly directed that
Mr. Athawes should be wrote to for the Rings, or
I should have put them into another Channel.
